Laser cladding

Experience the Laser cladding advantage

Wear? Corrosion? LCV offers a complete service for surface treatment, repair and 3D printing. Experience the Laser cladding advantage: harder coatings, better wear resistance, less material consumption, low heat input and lower TCO. Innovation is key for the industrial-grade Laser cladding: high-performance products, qualitative service and state-of-the-art technology.

Laser cladding

What are the Laser cladding advantages?

Due to the low heat input, Laser cladding coatings feature a specific material structure. This results in Laser cladding coatings which are on average 30% harder, up to 4 times more wear resistant and due to the low dilution, up to 50% less material is required.

Laser cladding coatings offer a "strong" advantage at a competitive cost:

•Minimal heat input results in limited deformation

•Metallurgical bond results in improved wear resistance

•Minimal dilution results in material saving

•Up to ~ 100% density results in excellent corrosion properties

•Optimal microstructure results in extra hardness & wear resistance

Is Laser cladding expensive?

Laser cladding is cost competitive with weld-overlay, hardfacing and thermal spray. Extra savings can be realised due to the limoted dilution which results in up to 50% material savings. In terms of Total Cost of Ownership, Laser cladding can yield up to 10-fold savings.

Laser cladding

What is laser cladding?

Laser cladding is a hardfacing process in which material in the form of powder is fused at the height of a substrate. The Laser acts in this process as heat source for creating a melt pool. The applied layer is metallurgically bonded to the underlying material (5-10% mixture) and shows little or no porosity.

Applications

LCV-Coat : Preventive Wear Protection for Volume Series with Laser Cladding

Due to the low heat input, Laser cladding coatings feature a specific material structure. This results in Laser cladding coatings which are on average 30% harder, up to 4 times more wear resistant and due to the low dilution, up to 50% less material is required.

The LCV-CorroSlide coatings are an alternative to weld-overlay and the LCV-UltraClad coatings are an alternative to thermal spray and hard-Chrome.

The LCV-Coat service is specifically aimed at preventive coating of series with a strong focus on quality, productivity and cost. LCV-Coatings are therefore price competitive with conventional hard-facing and thermal spray.

LCV-Repair : Refurbishment with Laser Cladding

Due to the low heat input, Laser cladding is the technology of choice for repairing assets where deformation must be avoided.

Applications are, for example, the welding of worn surfaces, but also hybrid 3D printing to restore geometry to new condition.

LCV Form : 3D Metal Printing with Laser Cladding

Metal 3D printing with Laser cladding is an emerging technology in which components are built up in layers. The LCV-Form service features specific capabilities:

  • Specific freedom of design
  • Hybrid build-up on freeform substrate
  • Large format
  • Vario-clad resolution

3D printing is a "tool-less" technology which can benefit time-to-market and cost. This makes 3D printing an alternative for small series (casting) work, but also for specific applications for example in aerospace.

Markets

Flow control

Laser cladding solutions for pumps and valves. This concerns hard facing of valves, corrosion-protection via weld-overlay or repair worn surfaces.

LCV features performant solutions for a wide range of valve and pump applications.

This concerns hard facings of valves, corrosion-protection via weld-overlay or repair worn surfaces.

LCV carries out these activities according to the ISO 3834 standard in accordance with the requirements of the petrochemical industry.

Process industry

Laser cladding for the petrochemical process industry. Weld-overlay and hard-facing for new installations, maintenance and specific solutions for extrusion.

LCV has solutions for project-based installations, maintenance and product-specific clad layers, for example for petrochemical extrusion applications.

LCV does not only rely on its laser cladding know-how, but also features extensive application knowledge. LCV always carries out these works according to customer-specific quality requirements conform with the ISO 3834 standard.

Hydraulics

Laser cladding of hydraulic coatings is an alternative to hard-chrome, HVOF and ceramic layers. Applications for "heavy-use" hydraulic cylinders.

To ensure the operational integrity of hydraulic installations, laser cladding is the solution for heavy-duty wear protection of for example mining, dredging, off-shore or maritime cylinders.

Application of a protective LCV-HydraClad layer is cost effective compared to ceramic and Nickel-Chrome coatings. Due to its perfect metallic structure, HydraClad coatings offer a proven best-in-class protection and wear resistance.

HydraClad layers are developed according to the DNV standard and certificate is available on request.

Steel manufacturing

Laser cladding offers proven solutions for wear coatings for steel production. Hard-facing for the hot-melt, the hot-strip and the cold line.

LCV features proven material solutions for the hot-melt, the hot-strip and the cold line.

LCV also offers specific coatings that can be used for both new installations as refurbishment and promote uptime on the production line.

With the UltraClad coating, LCV offers an alternative to Hard-Chrome and thermal spray and with the CorroSlide technology LCV offers an alternative to weld-overlay.

Ground engagement

Ground engagement, (rock-) drilling, mining and dredging are by definition the cause of heavy wear and tear and therefore require specific solutions.

Specifically for these applications, LCV offers its HD CorroSlide solution with purpose-designed materials such as Rockit and Impac-10X. As the name says, Impac-10X features a 10 times better impact resistance compared to a conventional carbide coating.

Energy

Turbo services

Turbine equipment are capital goods and re-manufacturing is commonly used to extend service life. Laser Cladding is a well-known technology for restoring components like seals and bushes.

Wind turbines

In a similar fashion laser cladding is used for wear protection and re-manufacturing of gears, generators, axles and bearings.

Boilers

Heat exchangers are subject to corrosion and abrasive (dust-)wear. Laser cladding is a proven solution for preventive wear protection and repair of for example boiler plates and HX pipes
