LCV 3D printing solutions feature the capability to print on complex surfaces while substrates are dynamically manipulated. So it's not a choice between conventional manufacturing OR 3D printing but both can be integrated, a.k.a "hybrid manufacturing".
The below case represents a gearing and connector printed on a turned cylinder with a 225MM outer diameter. The total printing and machining time is below 4 hours. The conventional approach is machining from stock and is estimated as a 2 day operation for a 1.85 meters rod.
The benefit? Besides a 75% reduction in machine time, a quasi 50% material saving is realized.
